Is Bob Rae pro-OPEC?

January 31st, 2012  |  By: Kathryn

Liberal leader Bob Rae doesn’t seem the type to stand up for tyrannies and human rights abusers. He was a staunch supporter of continuing Canada’s role in fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan. He has spoken out against Hamas’ terrorist attacks. So, why is he standing up for OPEC?

Maybe he doesn’t realize he is. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt and hope that explains his recent stance on oil shipments. But he recently came out against shipping oil by sea from Canada’s west coast. The thing is, Canada already sees lots of oil shipments by sea: it’s conflict oil, from OPEC countries, sailing into our east coast.

Maybe Rae is against that, too. Maybe he’d rather see ethical oil from Western Canada shipped east by pipeline or rail instead of all that conflict oil pulling into our eastern harbours. At least that would be a defensible position consistent with his public stance against terror-sponsoring and violent regimes. But he hasn’t said that…yet. So how about it Bob Rae? If you don’t like oil being shipped along Canada’s coastlines, will you speak out against the conflict oil tankers out east?

What would be wrong with shipping oil (NOT BITUMEN) by rail ?
B>C> could revisit the murky sale of B.C. Rail, railway would have to be upgraded (jobs), and surely the trains could move a lot more oil than a pipeline, never mind the jobs created ….possibly too expensive for Enbridge, but arguably safer than risking a spill.

Horse shit. He, and the Liberal Party of Canada, is against tanker traffic along BC’s northern coast. He never said anything about the South Coast or the proposed new pipeline projects into the Port of Vancouver.

so ethical oil is nonpartisan right? and does not receive any funding from Enbridge? I am now “coming out against” (what will a judge say when you use this language in the courtroom) this disgusting spin machine you call Ethical oil. org… makes me sick…. just a coincidence that everyone involved with Ethical Oil has been invited to the Harper family Christmas party….barff!!!

    well then, Kathryn
never mind about actually having a debate, comments closed…
    re: foreign meddling 101
one of your references in that article linked to FT paper, here’s a quote:
“Here’s the wrinkle: according to an independent poll by Toronto-based Forum Research Inc., Canadians are more worried about increasing foreign ownership in the oil and gas industry, which lately has seen a surge in Asian purchases, than about foreign environmental organizations targeting the oil sands.

For Mr. Harper, “It’s kind of back fired,” Forum president Lorne Bozinoff said in an interview. “It’s the foreign oil companies that [Canadians] are concerned about right now.”
Has it ever crossed your mind that maybe, just maybe those “regular, hard working Canadian ” are a bit smarter than you’re ready to admitt ? Maybe they smell a fish ?
Maybe they can call a spade a spade.
    Just a thought.
Keep it true and keep it conscious !

We have to stand up to these radical liberals .they are hell bent on destroying our economy to futher their political future by accepting bribes from opec to keep us from building a pipeline to supply CANADIAN oil to the east coast .

The readers of this site may want to check this latest report from the top global body in the world : http://www.un.org/gsp/report . It is advisable for Canada to move in this direction and not be an outlier. The world is rising and will move rapidly towards sustainability powered by the people. No amount of unethical forces [such as ethical oil] will be able to overcome this global rise in consciousness, there is no force in the world that can overcome moral power, none. Might is not right, right is might. So it is in the best interest of ethical oil to abandon the path to self-destruction and join the global movement towards sustainability. Ethical oil is an oxymoron.

Ah Bob the idiot Rae. The last of the long lineage of liberal boobs. There really is nothing for Canadians to worry about though the Liberals are a dead party walking, just going through the motions.

Thanks Ethical Oil for another illuminating editorial outlining the need for ethical oil and associated products in our modern world. Keep up the good fight against crooked green activists and their duplicitous plots.
